There are many things to do in IJmuiden. The municipality of Velsen is the heart of the IJmond region and contains seven settlements: IJmuiden, Driehuis, Velsen-Zuid Velsen, Santpoort-South, North and Santpoort Velserbroek. All cores have their own character.

Around IJmuiden there are also many things to do. Rent a pedelec (electric bicycle) to explore the surroundings.
From here you can make beautiful trips to explore the surroundings. It is easy to go to Haarlem, Alkmaar, Amsterdam or the Zaanse Schans. With a pedelec it will be more relaxing.

Situated south of the IJmuiden aan Zee beach and most easily accessible via the ‘IJmuiderslag’ signs. The southern section of this beach is a dog run, and due to its width this section is perfect for kite buggying, beach sailing and all-terrain car racing.

Spaarnwoude Recreation Ground

The Spaarnwoude Recreation Ground is located between Amsterdam, Haarlem and Velsen. The area, which was designed in the late 1960s as a green buffer from the emerging urbanisation, has since become a popular spot for all modern types of outdoor sports and recreation, attracting around 5.5 million visitors annually. The area covers nearly 3,000 hectares and is an oasis of greenery, nature and tranquillity.

Within its borders, you will find parks, playing fields, a climbing wall, a petting zoo, an educational farm, canoe trails, an adventure land, the indoor ski resort Snowplanet, and a public golf course.

There are many opportunities for cycling, in-line skating and walking, and if you would like to stay longer, you can book accommodation in one of the hotels or holiday homes or on a campsite. Spaarnwoude hosts several major events each year, including Dance Valley and Dutch Valley.
