The municipality of Velsen represents the heart of the region of the IJmond and it is divided in seven city agglomerates: IJmuiden, Driehuis, Velsen-Zuid, Velsen-Noord, Santpoort-Zuid, Santpoort-Noord and Velserbroek, everyone of them has its own identity. Velsen rises to the border of the national park South-Kennemerland and in the vicinity of Haarlem, capital of the province of North-Holland. With its characteristics, the municipality of Velsen is considered the more complex and multiform municipality on the coasts of the North Sea.
